Raise Funds for Nepal

My name is Liam Anderson. I have been travelling to Nepal since 2002, when I taught English as a volunteer in Chitwan in the south of the country. When the country was devastated by the April 2015 earthquake, I decided that I had to do something to help. I wanted to raise funds to support people directly on the ground, but because of the nature and scale of the disaster, I found this very difficult.

On the 24th May 2015 I climbed Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK and raised £1,200. I made a donation to Disasters Emergency Committee, with the funds raised going to their Nepal Earthquake Appeal. I still wanted to do more to help, but I wanted to see exactly which projects my fundraising would be supporting, rather than being absorbed by a general fund or appeal.

At that point I decided that the best way to achieve my aim and have control over exactly where my fundraising would be best utilised, was to establish a charity myself. Raise Funds for Nepal was registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Register (OSCR) on 24th September 2015.

Our mission is to fund and maintain orphanages in various locations in Nepal to provide a stable base for orphaned and displaced children to get better access to education and have a safe environment to live, grow and develop. We work closely with local NGOs on the ground in Nepal to ensure all funds raised are going directly to where they are intended, to benefit those who need the support most.

We directly support and encourage the education and general wellbeing of orphaned and displaced children living at the orphanages in Nepal we support, in addition to targeting rural communities in need of help.

We raise funds through ongoing sponsorship and donations in the UK and overseas. We manage all fundraising activities and decide where funds raised can be most effectively used to support projects in Nepal.

Making a donation

By fundraising or making a donation to Raise Funds for Nepal, you are able to directly support and identify with individual projects in Nepal, rather than your donations, or fundraising efforts being ‘pooled’ in a general fund like the Disasters Emergency Committee Nepal Appeal. As we target individual projects, you will be able to relate personally to the work that’s being done by the charity and see exactly how your money is being used.

We do not make any payments to individuals, including charity trustees.

Thank you for showing an interest in Raise Funds for Nepal.

Regards

Liam
