Mountain homestay itinerary

You will be met by our driver at Kathmandu international airport and transferred to our host family home in Kathmandu. You can then rest and recover from your flight, ready for your first full day in Nepal.
In the morning, you are invited to take part in a Nepali language and cultural orientation session. This will help you prepare for your homestay placement. In the afternoon you will visit Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey temple. Swayambhunath stupa is the oldest stupa in Kathmandu and one of the oldest religious sites in Nepal. The historic landmark has been a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. You will then have free time to perhaps explore the tourist area of Kathmandu, Thamel. Alternatively, you can return to the host family home to rest.
In the morning, you are invited to take part in further Nepali language and cultural orientation. In the afternoon you will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square. In the heart of old Kathmandu city, Kathmandu Durbar Square never fails to impress first time visitors with its intricate wood carvings and rich history. You will then have free time to perhaps explore the tourist area of Kathmandu, Thamel. Alternatively, you can return to the host family home to rest and prepare for your transfer to Goljung.
In the morning you will begin your trip to your homestay placement in Goljung. You should arrive mid-afternoon, where you will meet your host family. You can then rest and recover from your journey.
Spend the next 3 days at your mountain homestay placement. Help in the fields and tend to the livestock. Get involved with preparing food in the kitchen and learning about Tamang cuisine. Spend your time exploring the village and speaking to the local villagers. In this way you can learn about Tamang culture and customs from the Tamang people themselves.
Although Syabrubesi is the common starting point for this trek, the great thing about your mountain homestay placement is that Goljung is directly on the trekking route, so you can literally start and finish the trek from the front door of the yellow house. A short trek today to Gatland, a beautiful Tamang village just to get the legs going.
Today’s walk begins by descending to Thangbuchet, by a lovely river. After lunch, the trail heads up again, across a hanging bridge and climbing to Tatopani, your stop for the night. The town’s name means ‘hot water’ in Nepali. You can enjoy the natural hot springs, with water that comes straight out of the ground.
Today, the trail ascends to Nagthali Danda, which sits at (3,300m above sea level). Nagthali Danda is a high, open grassland with amazing views of the Himalayas. Stop at the delightful Brimdang village for lunch, then continue up to Nagthali Danda. Continue down to Thuman.
Today’s walk begins along a flatter section of trail, then descends to Timure. It follows part of the old trade route to Tibet. After lunch, the trail continues to Briddim, another Tamang village, where you’ll stay for the night.
A short, easy last days trek. Steadily make your way back to Goljung and your trek is complete.
Spend the next 5 days at your mountain homestay placement. Help in the fields and tend to the livestock. Get involved with preparing food in the kitchen and learning about Tamang cuisine. Spend your time exploring the village and speaking to the local villagers. In this way you can learn about Tamang culture and customs from the Tamang people themselves.
In the morning you will begin your trip back to Kathmandu. You should arrive mid-afternoon. You can then rest and recover from your journey. After resting, you can travel to Thamel for dinner on your last night in Nepal.
Spend the day at your host family home or take your final chance for some exploring and sightseeing. If you are leaving Nepal you will be dropped off at Kathmandu international airport in plenty of time for your flight. If you are staying longer in Nepal, this is the end of your homestay placement. We hope you have enjoyed your time with us in Nepal.
